Who shapes the systems that shape culture? Who owns the cultural value created with AI? Whose voices disappear when culture becomes optimised for scale? Can AI expand access without flattening difference? What should remain irreducibly human in cultural production? Who decides which cultural narratives algorithms amplify? What does consent mean when culture becomes training data?

They require a space for informed disagreement, shared responsibility, and meaningful consensus.

Alliance for Culture & AI

About the Alliance
01 / Our vision

A world where all humans can engage with culture and use it for personal growth and fulfilment.

We see culture as central to human development in a post-material world — and AI technology as a force that, when stewarded responsibly, can make culture accessible, productive, and meaningful at a planetary scale.

02 / Our mission

We shape culture–AI relations for a more creative, inclusive, and responsible future.

We connect people and perspectives that are too often separated: artists and developers, institutions and entrepreneurs, researchers and communities, policymakers and practitioners.

Not to eliminate tension.
But to make it productive.
Principles

Technology should expand culture, not diminish it.

We believe the relationship between culture and technology must remain open, responsible, and human-centred.

We work for

  • Experiences, formats, and languages that neither culture nor technology could produce alone.
  • Technology development rooted in imagination, ethical thinking, and human values.
  • Creators and communities sustaining and amplifying their work.

We stand against

  • Concentrations of power that limit creative agency and participation.
  • The appropriation of creators' work and cultural value.
  • The reduction of culture to scalable content and diverse experiences to standardised formats.
  • The misuse of technology that undermines meaning, autonomy, and cultural plurality.

What we do

From shared questions to shared action.

The Alliance works at the intersection of public dialogue, practical production, and education. We turn fragmented perspectives into meaningful agendas, experiments, and frameworks for action.

Three interconnected directions form the foundation of our activities.

AGENDA SETTING

Forum

Research Advocacy Consensus

We collect, analyse, and synthesise the voices of cultural stakeholders on the impact of AI. We formulate shared requests and positions, contribute to policy discussions, and advocate for culture and society in AI governance.

We also facilitate dialogue, mediation, and arbitration where interests, values, and expectations collide.

People

Built across disciplines.

The Alliance is initiated by the people behind CultTech — a team with experience building connections between culture, technology, entrepreneurship, and society.

Our work is grounded in the understanding that complex challenges cannot be addressed from a single perspective. We initiate cross-sector conversations, bring together the expertise they require, and help carry them through to tangible outcomes — in production, policymaking, and funding.

The Alliance is being developed as an independent, non-profit organisation based in Vienna, Austria, with an international outlook.
